It doesn’t have to take forever to map out your screenplay so you can start writing pages

You just need to know what you need to know, and have the confidence – or guidance – to put those pieces of the puzzle together.

If you feel like you get stuck in indecision and it keeps you from starting (or finishing) your screenplay, then let’s overcome that hurdle with a guided, focused workshop that will get you moving.

I’ve helped hundreds of writers through the same process. Going from, “Could this idea be a screenplay?” to having the entire story figured out, in just a few hours’ time.

Go from ‘stuck’ to writing your screenplay in 6 steps

Screenplays are built, not born in one magical step. You probably know that. But you may not know the 6 specific steps we’ll take to create a solid foundation and roadmap for your screenplay.

Each step involves a simple exercise or two, so you can try out different choices without worrying about wasting time or getting lost in too many options.

First we’ll hone your movie idea by clarifying the basic concept. Then we’ll make sure the idea has a relatable and organic character arc built in.

With that solid foundation in place, we’ll work with what we already know to expand the concept into its natural beginning, middle, and end, and from there we’ll be able to identify the story’s important turning points.

We’ll tease out the story details a little more, putting some flesh (both plot and character development) on the structure bones, and filling in the screenplay roadmap template.

And finally, we’ll tighten and polish the choices we’ve made, ending with a complete roadmap – an overview of your entire story and screenplay.

What can you expect from the workshop?

✅ 3 live sessions designed to be concise, focused, and hands-on
✅ Email support from me during the week so you can always get un-stuck
✅ A finished screenplay roadmap and a plan for writing the draft
– so you’re ready to keep going when the workshop is over

Here’s the workshop itinerary:

Session 1: Strengthening concepts, creating character arc, expanding the story, checking loglines, and how to draw down plot turns from what you already have.

Homework: Plot points brainstorm, no more than 30 minutes

Session 2: Workshop plot points to solidify the shape of the story, the story roadmap template and how to use it

Homework: Sketch out your roadmap

Session 3: Workshop roadmaps and make sure you have a solid plan for writing your screenplay

A straightforward plan and an experienced guide

You can learn so much by reading everything that’s available in books and online. But that can take dozens or hundreds of hours. If you want to start your next (or first) screenplay quickly, then a simple plan may serve you better. You just need to know what you need to know, and how to put it together.

We’ll focus on just the important stuff. So the workshop is beginner-friendly but will also streamline the process for experienced writers. Though there will be some new information to take in, we’re going to put it into action right away. You’ll be able to apply what you’re learning and make immediate progress.

And I’ll be there at every step to help you figure it out. The workshop is limited to 6 writers to make sure your project receives individual attention.

Every screenplay is unique, there will always be a new challenge to tackle, and sometimes an extra set of hands-eyes-brains is exactly what you need to stop second guessing and move forward.

Answers to your questions

Do I need to know anything about screenwriting to take this workshop?

Beginners welcome! You don’t need to have studied screenwriting or written a screenplay to join. But you’ll have a head start if you understand the basic elements of main character, story goal, stakes, and conflict. If you want to brush up, I have a free book on Amazon or Apple Books that covers it.

What kind of projects can I work on in this workshop?

Any genre, any budget level, but we will focus exclusively on feature-length screenplays.

Where do we meet?

We will meet online via Zoom (which you’re probably very familiar with by now but if not, it’s pretty easy to use – even my great-grandma figured it out).

What if I have no screenplay ideas, or several screenplay ideas – can I take this workshop?

Since this is a hands-on, progress-focused experience, you will need a project to work on in the workshop. However, you can come with just the barest inkling of an idea for a movie, and we can develop it from there. If you’re not sure whether your spark of inspiration is enough to start with, email me and let’s discuss!

If you have several ideas to choose from, you’re welcome to bring them all to our first session and get feedback from the group on which one you should write next.

Still have questions? Email me and let’s chat!
